The Film: Breaking The News

Seeking to buck the white male status quo, a group of women and LGBTQ+ journalists launch a news startup asking who’s been omitted from mainstream coverage, and how to include them.

This grant was awarded as part of Subject Matter’s collaboration with the 2023 Tribeca Festival.

The Nonprofit: The 19th*

The 19th is an independent, nonprofit newsroom reporting on gender, politics and policy. The 19th aims to be a source of news and information for those who have been underserved by and underrepresented in American media.

Breaking The News received a $25,000 grant to support their audience outreach and impact efforts. The 19th* received a $25,000 grant to support their coverage of voting rights, reproductive health and LGBTQ+ rights in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
